During your apprenticeship as a Technical System Planner (f/m/d) – Steel and Metal Construction at seele, you will learn how complex façade and roof structures made of steel, glass and aluminium are planned and designed. You will work with technical drawings, 3D models and modern CAD software, supporting construction projects from the initial concept through to final implementation.

As part of this dual apprenticeship, you will not only work in design and construction but also gain insights into key departments such as Research & Development, Purchasing and Cost Estimation. This allows you to understand the profession in a holistic way. A production placement in our own manufacturing facilities is an integral part of the apprenticeship and provides valuable hands-on experience.

What do you do as a Technical System Planner Steel and Metal Construction?

A Technical System Planner designs and plans components and assemblies made of steel and metal. During the apprenticeship, you create technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software, prepare production and installation documents and work in teams on real construction projects.

How long does your apprenticeship last?

The dual apprenticeship usually lasts 3.5 years. Under certain conditions, such as strong academic performance, it may be shortened.

What requirements do you need for the apprenticeship?

You should:

  • have at least a secondary school qualification
  • be interested in technology, mathematics and design
  • have good spatial awareness and attention to detail
  • enjoy working in a team and using computers
  • prior CAD knowledge is helpful but not required

What are your typical tasks as a Technical System Planner?

Creating technical drawings and 3D models

You translate design concepts into practical solutions using CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD), create detailed drawings and deepen your knowledge of steel and metal construction planning.

Preparing production and installation documents

You create documentation for manufacturing and assembly and learn how projects progress from planning to execution.

Working within the project team

You coordinate with project managers, engineers and designers, developing a strong sense for solution-oriented teamwork.

Reviewing and updating drawings

You keep drawings up to date, check technical requirements and work with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications.

Materials management and documentation

You learn how to work with materials management systems and ensure proper technical documentation.

Is your apprenticeship more practical or theoretical?

The apprenticeship is practice-oriented. You work on real projects from an early stage, combined with vocational school education. You will also complete a production placement and, if possible, a construction site placement.

What happens on your first day as an apprentice?

On your first day at seele in Gersthofen near Augsburg, you will meet the other apprentices, dual students and your trainers. You will learn more about seele as a company and get to explore our production facilities and the entire site through guided tours.

After a shared lunch, you will be welcomed by your mentor. This person will support you during your first weeks and help you settle in quickly. You will then be introduced to your project team, with whom you will work throughout your first year of training.

What’s your vocational training programme like?

Vocational school lessons take place in block weeks in Lauingen. During these blocks, you will study the theoretical foundations of the profession and explore topics in greater depth in the areas of design and CAD, manufacturing and joining processes, building technology and building physics, mathematics and physics, as well as materials science.

The combination of theoretical lessons and practical training creates a solid foundation for the successful completion of your apprenticeship.

Is there an initial training ahead of the apprenticeship?

During the first weeks of your apprenticeship, you will receive comprehensive basic training for Technical System Planners. Step by step, you will learn how to work with our CAD software, create your first 2D and 3D drawings, and correctly read and understand technical plans.

These fundamentals prepare you to join your project team quickly and carry out your tasks confidently.

Will you be offered a permanent position after completing your apprenticeship as a Technical Systems Planner (m/f/d)?

The aim of the apprenticeship at seele is to offer you a permanent position. This is also reflected in our consistently high retention rate. Provided both parties are satisfied with the apprenticeship and the terms of future employment suit both you and the company, there is nothing to stand in the way of you being offered a permanent position.

What career opportunities are available after the apprenticeship?

After completing the apprenticeship, you can work as a Designer (f/m/d) within project teams. With experience, you may progress to Design Manager (f/m/d) or Senior Design Manager (f/m/d), or pursue further qualifications such as becoming a state-certified construction technician (f/m/d).

What are your working hours like during the apprenticeship?

During your apprenticeship, you will work under our flexitime scheme. This allows you to organise your working day flexibly within the set time slots.

How much do you earn as an apprentice?

The training allowance depends on the year of the apprenticeship. In the first year, the allowance is €1,100 gross and increases in subsequent years.

How many days of holiday do you get during your training?

As a trainee (m/f/d) at seele GmbH in Gersthofen, you are entitled to 30 days of holiday per year. Special leave can also be requested if required.

Can you do a school work placement before starting the apprenticeship?

Yes. A school work placement is an excellent way to gain first insights into planning, CAD and construction and to get to know the profession.

How can you apply for the apprenticeship?

Application documents

You can apply online directly for the Technical System Planner – Steel and Metal Construction apprenticeship (m/f/d). On our trainee page, you will find the relevant job posting for your chosen profession if vacancies are still available. Simply open the job advertisement and click “Apply now” at the end of the page to access the application form. Applications for a school work placement can be submitted as a speculative application.

Confirmation

Once you have uploaded your application documents (cover letter, CV, your three most recent school reports and, if applicable, certificates from previous work placements) via our online application portal and submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email. This lets you know that we have successfully received your documents.

Job interview

Our HR team will then carefully review your application. If everything is a good fit, we will invite you to an interview so that we can get to know each other better. The interview is usually conducted by your future trainer or apprenticeship supervisor. The interview is not only an opportunity for us to learn more about you – it is also your chance to ask any questions you may have about the apprenticeship, your future role or seele as a company.

Apprenticeship contract

If, after the interview, you can see yourself starting your apprenticeship with us and we believe you would be a great addition to our team, we will arrange a further meeting to sign your apprenticeship contract. If you are under 18, your parents or legal guardians are also welcome to attend.

Your apprenticeship will then begin on 1 September, and we look forward to welcoming you to the seele team.
