Canary Wharf is the name of the new business district that has been under construction on the site of the former Port of London since the 1990s. The construction of the BP4 building at Churchill Place closes the final gap in the original master plan. This 130m high, 23-storey building designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates is located directly alongside the old port basin. BP4 stands out from the neighbouring compact glass towers. The façade steps back at the corners, which makes it look like the façade itself is suspended. A further dynamic effect is created by the angled vertical edges of the west façade, which faces the water, as well as the adjoining, likewise inclined, edges on the north and south elevations. On the west side, a two-part atrium extends over eight storeys.

  • The elements were mounted on the load-bearing structure by way of cast-in channels and hook fixings. The basic element measures approx. 1.5m x 4m, but there are many variations on this unit, including different dimensions and shapes, sloping edges or two-storey elements. In some instances the design was modified to suit the particular location: elements with ventilation louvres for the plant rooms, plain aluminium elements, or units with low-iron glass for display windows. In addition, there are atrium façades, a two-storey post-and-rail façade at entrance level and glass canopies on all sides. With so many different types, further increased by a wide range of colours, plus the tight schedule, this is a project where seele has demonstrated how its skilled logistics personnel handle such complex façades.
