The job as a Computer Aided Designer / CAD Designer at seele in Augsburg
Exciting projects and innovation
Julian started his career at seele around 10 years ago with his training as a technical system planner in steel and metal construction technology. Now, as a Senior CAD Designer, he takes on his own projects and more responsibility in the development of exciting designs made by seele. The future also offers him many prospects.
What makes working at seele so interesting for you?
As Computer Aided Designers, we design special façades and building envelopes in 2D and 3D software for spectacular construction projects. The exciting thing about my job is that every project involves new tasks and challenges. I especially enjoy working out the technical details. In addition, the end result is another very special building that you have been a part of.
What specific challenges are you facing in your current project and how are you overcoming them?
I am currently developing an oversized, moving façade element. The special thing about it is that, despite its extraordinary size, the element opens vertically and not horizontally. I've never had that in my job before. seele's basic motto is to constantly push the boundaries of what is feasible. Co-operation with structural engineering and building physics is very important, especially in the development phase. We as CAD designers also work with the latest technology. With the help of parametric modelling, we can depict our design in an intelligent 3D model and react quickly to adjustments or check alternatives. This enables us to achieve a perfect result.
What technical skills should you have as a computer aided designer?
In addition to a degree or training as a computer-aided designer, technical draughtsman, technical system planner or technical product designer or CAD designer, you should have a certain level of expertise in the software used in our job. This includes AutoCAD, Rhino, Creo and HiCAD. You should also enjoy tinkering, because at seele we look for innovative solutions for exceptional designs. We work closely with other specialist departments, such as R&D, project management, assembly and production.
And what does seele offer you as an employer?
Anyone who accepts a job offer at seele benefits from numerous advantages, such as team events, a canteen at the Gersthofen site near Augsburg, as well as good opportunities for further training. For example, two years after my apprenticeship, I completed further training to become a state-certified construction technician while working.
My job is also greatly enriched by the excellent working atmosphere and the innovation that the seele Group and its construction projects harbour: I often exchange ideas with my colleagues or use the latest technology in the field of digitalisation, such as virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR), or XR / extended reality, AI (artificial intelligence) and robotics.
What would you like for your professional future at seele?
A stay abroad would be a great experience for me. Thanks to our international focus with locations in New York, Hong Kong and Dubai, among others, there may soon be an opportunity with the right construction project and at the right time.
