exceptional architecture at apple headquarters

apple park – a movable façade

As the corporate headquarters, Apple Park reflects the company’s innovative strength and high design standards. The restaurant on the corporate campus serves as the central gathering point for employees. To enhance this space, seele developed an especially impressive glass façade with a monumental rolling door system.

Each of the two enormous curved doors weighs 180 t, is 16 m high and 28 m wide. Each panel incorporates two steel posts and eleven stainless steel tension rods connecting the upper and lower steel beams. These rods are pre-tensioned with a force of 30 t each.

technical masterpiece for apple headquarters

To open and close these massive doors quickly and quietly in just 12 minutes, seele engineered a custom motor with a drive mechanism built specifically for the Apple headquarters. The doors glide along tracks that follow the building’s 232 m radius. Opening and closing is graceful and extremely quiet, with a noise level below 40 dB. All the drive and locking technology is housed in the basement.
