glass pavilion for the first apple store in malaysia

In the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s central business district, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Apple opened its first store in Malaysia: Apple The Exchange TRX. The entrance to the store is formed by a modern pavilion that blends harmoniously into the surrounding TRX Central Park. The glass dome, realised by seele using glass, steel and mirror-polished surfaces, creates an architectural highlight in this urban oasis.

glass-and-steel architecture: the dome’s design

seele engineered and delivered the 31 x 31 m wide and 10 m high glass dome, consisting of four curved and 10 flat glass panels. Vertical loads are transferred through 8 mirror-polished stainless steel columns and 8 cladded steel columns. Horizontally layered aluminium louvres, wrapped around the perimeter, reduce solar radiation and emphasise the clean geometry of the glass dome. A glazed oculus at the centre of the roof structure brings daylight into the interior, while operable elements at the top provide natural ventilation.

180 sqm of all-glass façade for the retail interior

The interior retail façade of the Apple Store was realised by seele as an all-glass construction with impressive dimensions: 18 m wide, 10 m high, and made from just 7 large-format glass units. It is complemented by a generously sized mall entrance door and two fully glazed side doors.
