the henderson – an architectural icon

a landmark that embodies technological innovation

With a building envelope tailored to cutting-edge technology, The Henderson sets new standards in the realisation of 3D geometries. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the 200 m tower stands as a glass monolith rising from the ground on one of the world’s most expensive development sites. seele was responsible for the podium and tower top of The Henderson, whose organic building envelope showcases seele’s expertise, especially in managing the wide variety of complex façade unit types.

complex geometries for the podium and tower top of the henderson

The 1,210 sqm steel mullion-transom façade, which spans levels 3 to 6, comprises double-curved glass elements and aluminium profiles that were mounted as pre-assembled units.

the henderson: a convex curved exterior

Each unique prefabricated unit varies in size and curvature up to 500 mm and is attached with a toggle bolt system. The fully glazed façade in the entrance area, which rises to a height of 11 m, reflects the organic form of The Henderson with convex corner elements. 3D-formed panels create striking accents and provide smooth transitions between building sections.

maximum transparency in the henderson’s banquet hall

The banquet hall on the 37th and 38th floors features a 375 sqm glass façade and a glass roof made of cylindrically curved glass panels. The glazing is made of six-layer laminates to withstand high wind loads, and exterior shading provides solar control. Mirror-polished 3D panels and integrated LEDs create aesthetic accents along the convex building components and roof edges. Additionally, seele implemented mullion-transom façades on the north and south sides.

seele masters high wind loads at the henderson

Hong Kong experiences frequent typhoons, so The Henderson’s façade must withstand significant wind loads. To meet all safety requirements while maintaining maximum transparency, seele designed and produced exceptionally thick glass laminates with up to seven 15 mm layers for the building’s lower areas.

At the top of the tower, seele installed large-format panels on both the vertical façade and the roof structure. Notable here are the supporting glass fins, which ensure high transparency on the topmost floor and offer a spectacular panoramic view of the city.
