different façade types for the no.1 court in wimbledon made by seele

The No.1 Court, the second largest stadium of The All England Lawn Tennis Club complex, was enlarged as part of a general renovation. It was received a new fixed and a retractable roof, allowing play during any weather conditions, and additional suites.

While the fabric for the retractable roof was supplied and installed by seele in Germany, the refurbishment work on the existing façades and the realization of the new areas was scope of work of seele in Austria. In total about 8,350sqm façades with different façade types were realized and a variety of materials such as HPL plates (high pressure laminates), supports and transoms made of aluminum or timber imitations were used.

  • The top floor received corporate hospitality suites and a balcony around the whole lap of the building, which allows spectacular views over the outside courts. Glass balustrades made by seele secure the balcony and a timber imitation dresses the façade in this area. Sliding doors form the entrances to the 15 suites. This special area was visualized in advance by means of a mock-up, which was presented to The All England Lawn Tennis Club during a visit.

An assembly break was necessary to allow for the No.1 Court to be prepared for The Championships in July 2018. The construction site had to be cleared from April, works were continued in August 2018.

The services provided by seele for project No.1 Court at Wimbledon stadium once again demonstrate the extensive know-how in terms of materials expertise and flexibility in installation.
