seadeck KUBE: steel substructure with gold-coloured anodised aluminium cladding

On the promenade of Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, the “Victoria Dockside”, a new art and design district was created, which enlives this district of Hong Kong with architecture, events, retail shops and restaurants. At the Avenue of Stars, a kiosk with special features was built according to the design of OMA.

The kiosk has the shape of a cube measuring 5 x 5 x 5m and consists of a steel substructure with gold-coloured anodised aluminium cladding. On two sides there is a cut-out for the sales opening, which can be opened to the left and to the right with the help of a folding opening. A retractable, motorised canopy serves as rain protection in bad weather. The kiosk is accessible to the staff via a double-wing door clad with gold-coloured aluminium panels.

  • Above, below and at two opposite edges the kiosk is set in scene with LED strips. In addition, various lettering is backlit. These lettering is milled into the cladding or applied to the cladding as an additional logo. A special highlight is that the kiosk is supposed to represent the basket of a hot-air balloon and therefore will get a steel cable construction on the roof on which a large, illuminated balloon will be placed. This will make it a unique eye-catcher on the Victoria Dockside promenade, especially on opposite Hong Kong Island.
