Hong Kong’s Murray Road has a new building at a prime location: “The Henderson”. This 200m tall, 39-storey tower with its distinctive curving envelope was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. Besides the podium façade, seele is now also responsible for the exclusive glass structure at the top of the tower.

With its spectacular structural glass façade, the double-storey banqueting hall on the 37th floor is a real eye-catcher. The wind loads and sunshading system are crucial for the realisation of this glass structure. The façade has an area of about 375sqm and is made up of 36 hot-bent glass panes up to 7.60m long. Single-curvature bent glass panes are also used on the roof. Together with the glass beams they create a delicate assembly fitted into the steel structure provided by others. High wind loads called for six-ply laminated glass. An external sunshading system on the roof shields against excessive solar gains.

  • In line with the overall architectural concept, cladding made from 3D-bent sheet metal polished to a mirror finish delineates the convex forms of the building envelope and continues along the edges of the roof. LEDs integrated in the vertical sections further emphasise the architectural setting.
The post-and-rail façades in glass and perforated sheet metal on the north and south sides also fall within seele’s remit.

The exclusive glass structure crowning “The Henderson” demonstrates the range of products and services of façades specialist seele. With its wide array of steel-and-glass, structural glass and modular façades, seele has been able to provide expert solutions for the interfaces with the parts of the building designed by other project partners.
