Patinated brass adorns the façade of the Peninsula Hotel in London

09/12/2023 Today the Peninsula Hotel in London opens its doors. From the façade to the door systems and canopies, seele designed, manufactured, and installed approx. 22,000sqm of façade constructions. A high level of material competence was required for the realisation of the façade elements of the new luxury hotel.

Characteristic of the design by Hopkins Architects is the bronze colour, which extends from the canopies to the window elements of the façades. To implement the architects' colour concept, seele chose to use patinated brass as well as anodised aluminium. The seele team previously engaged in material workshops to thoroughly explore the technical feasibility and various influencing parameters. The result was several surface treatment processes to prepare the final surface characteristics and a patination and protection process adapted to them. Another highlight is a striking ring pattern which was milled in the window elements. The surface between the rings were given a rough haptic by sandblasting.

With the unique bronze-coloured building envelope for the Peninsula Hotel, seele once again demonstrated its comprehensive expertise in materials.
