We are currently realising 27 complex light eyes and three grid-shell structures for the ‘Stuttgart 21’ infrastructure project. Our team has been on site since May to make the necessary preparations. Now the installation of the first light eye has started.
A light eye consists of 8 steel construction segments. Each segment is suspended and adjusted via 3 lattice girders using chain hoists and heavy-duty belts. The segments can then be welded together – in any season and in any weather. The installation area above the light eye is completely roofed. Shipping containers form a container enclosure. These serve both as a supporting structure for the 3 lattice girders, which are important for fixing the steel construction segments, and as supports for the roof structure.
In addition to the construction progress on the first light eye, further container enclosures are now in place. At peak times, 200 employees will be working on 10 light eyes simultaneously.
