seele at IASS 2017 in Hamburg
Gersthofen, 11, September 2017. This year’s theme of the symposium will be “Interfaces: Architecture, Engineering, Science”. One of seele’s presentation is about “Design and Fabrication of light and spatial constructions“. The lecture of Dr. Fabian Schmid is about the experimental developments for composite actuators with a focus on the advantages of the combined production processes. The characteristics of the one piece woven textile materials, extended with production processes used for glass metal composites, are discussed.
Furthermore se-austria GmbH, a company of the seele group of company, will also give a lecture together with Engelmann Peters. They will talk about the free-form gridshell of the Chadstone Shopping Centre in Melbourne. The 7.080sqm free-form gridshell with spans of up to 44m will be discussed with the view of structural engineers and will give an insight of the planning process, bearing concept, load-bearing behavior, calculation and construction. “The gridshell system shows an impressive way how efficient this construction concept is. It is a brilliant example of modern planning and construction processes”, says speaker Christoph Bauchinger, technical project manager.

The first IASS symposium in Germany took place in 1996 in Stuttgart. Since 1956 the IASS has provided professional exchange in the range of lightweight and structural systems like membrane or gridshell. The annual symposium is one of the professional highlights for designers and engineers. That is why seele will be part of it.
